2022 started as an exiting year for First Meridian. On January 17 we received our approval in reference to the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers- STCW in short- and thus we are the first Certified Maritime Training Center. Our unique combination of International expertise, as well as close collaboration with the local authorities, whilst using Local Content, has paid off.
New Courses
We are expanding our curriculum on a regular basis. Recently we have added a couple of additional safety training at competitive prices. For example Fire Fighting for the Petro Chemical Industry (on demand as an “in company training”), the dropped objects course, gas measurement course, as well as a combi refresher training of Working at Heights with Confined Space entry

The latest demand in our market, was the Rescue at Heights training. A requirement for all those working i.e. away from immediate medical and/ or rescue support, but also to minimize the results of possible incidents at the workplace, when working at these heights.

We can proudly say, that First Meridian has recently safely completed the 2-day first Rescue at Heights Training in Suriname with a total of 17 delegates.

Saving lives starts here
All our training is conducted in a safe environment, by using our simulators at our facility, or, upon request, as an “in company” training on side at the customer. According to International Standards, Emergency Medical services shall be no more than 20 minutes away. In the very rare case of an incident, we are always prepared, and therefore have Emergency Medical services on site.

Based on the recent developments in the Offshore Oil & Gas market, and the related planned projects in Suriname for an additional shore base near Paramaribo, as well as a deep sea facility on the western side of Suriname, we will keep adding relevant courses to our curriculum. We are currently planning to offer EX Compliance courses for engineers and inspectors around Q3 of 2022. Our BOSIET facility is currently planned to be operational by Q1 of 2023 at our Training Center.
We have recently seen an uptick for “in Company” training, where companies with a more than 16 delegates are required to meet the new safety standards. In some cases, these new requirements are directly linked to the introductory of a Quality Management System. Whereass the demand for ISO 9001 Certification and training is steadily growing, we have seen a significant increase for ISO 14001 (Environment) and ISO 45001 (HSE) Certification and related training as well.
First Meridian is closely collaborating with the agent for one of the largest Certification bodies in the world, Det Norske Veritas, for both Suriname and Guyana.
